Week 2 Story, Ron's Important Lesson

Image
Ron was an upcoming collegiate golfer who had shown promise helping his team earn some titles during his previous two seasons there, but injuries had stopped him from helping even more when it mattered most. Frustrated by not being able to help his team, Ron got healthy again and signed up for summer tournaments to get back in the competitive gear again. With relatively solid performances he was gaining confidence in his game again, but something with is swing just felt off and with no idea how to fix it he began to look for answers in all places imaginable; except for in the one place he should have his personal instructor, Rick, had been working with Ron for five years and knew exactly how to help if was asked to.   Instead of being smart, Ron seeked advice from a stranger named Tom who had wined and dined him at a tournament in Columbus, Ohio. In doing so Ron exposed himself to a way of swinging and executing shots that would do more harm than good. At first these ch...

Reading Notes Jataka

Image
The Foolish, Timid Rabbit, Ellen C. Babbitt,  source Buddhism is known for its truthful inquiry and was against the following of blind faith. The first story in the reading exemplifies this idea. In “The Foolish, Timid Rabbit I was able to notice the underlying moral of the story being not to blindly trust what one has to say without first having proof. If it was not for the wise lion asking the rabbit who thought the Earth was breaking what was going on they would all still be running today. By standing up and asking the question it is shown that if one does not inquire there can be dire consequences to those who blindly follow the leader. The Turtle and the Geese, Ellen C. Babbitt,  source The next story that I was able to take some points away from was The Turtle and the Geese. In this story the turtle is being helped by friends but the only stipulation is that the turtle cannot speak or open his mouth. The turtle then disobeys and opens his mouth...

Reading Options

Image
For weeks 3 and 4 I choose the  PDE version of Ramaya  since it will be easier for me to read as much as I travel around. The audio version will also be good, since it provides me with another way to understand the story. The image also help me to create a mental picture of what is happening in my head For week 5 I plan on watching the movie  Sita Sings the blues , watching this should help ,me to better understand the story, especially after reading it and now watching it. Week 6 and 7 I am going to be reading the  PDE version of Mahabharata  mainly because it will be easier for me to read it over a  period of time.                                                   Source

Class Technologies

Image
Before this class I had never had to write a blog post before, so this week I have been trying to get familiar with Blogger.com to make these posts easier to write as the class moves forward. The environment of this class is similar to some of the previous classes I have taken, in the point of it is up to me to keep up with the pace of the class. It is different because we have so many more extra credit options and it is easier to get ahead if we choose to do so. I mainly just wan tot get more familiar with navigating blogger throughout this course.                                                                  'Blogging'  source

Time Strategies

Image
For me with time management strategies, I prefer to do a little bit of work each day so that I do not get to overwhelmed with so much work and that if I miss a day it is not as big of a deal. Granted I know that some of my teammates prefer to do a lot of work on a few days. In the Psychology of Checklist's article I like d the idea they said about setting small goals and achieving them helps conquer greater ones  Source . I lie this idea because it helps you attain confidence which helps you get more accomplished than if you set a really big goal and struggled to get it done. The other one I liked was Realistic Study Plans  Source , it mentioned making realistic study goals with an example of 30 minutes a day which is easier to manage and is proven to be better at learning information. I didn't learn much of anything new, but was reiterated all of the information about studying that I have been taught. My biggest challenge will be making time with how busy I get during the sea...

Class Assignments

Image
The thing that has intrigued me the most in this class so far is that we are purely responsible for everything that we have to do for class. We are able to create our own schedule that we complete the work and have the possibility to finish early if we choose to do so. I think that the storytelling assignments are going to be fun and interesting, because we all have different ways in which we will be telling and creating stories, so it should be fun to see how it all works out. None of of the extra credit assignments have stood out to me so far, but something interesting may come across my attention.                                                       Extra Credit,  Source

Growth Mindset

Image
This was my firs time to hear about Carol Dweck and Growth Mindset and it is an interesting subject. Due to how I was raised and the sport I play, I have a very fixed mindset in school work and in my life. Results to me are what matters and that is how I was able to receive a scholarship, by proving myself against the best juniors in the country I was recruited to come play here. From being here I have noticed that I learn best when I sit down by myself with my book and notes and try to figure it out on my own and ask for help if I need it and that is the way I am with golf, I enjoy figuring stuff out on my own and that helps me remember it better. I will be interested in learning more about growth mindset this semester, just to increase my knowledge and understanding of another way to think. Overall I feel very comfortable with my classes, as long as I put in the work and pay attention I see no trouble with them. Who knows maybe learning more about growth mindset could help me be a be...

Introduction to a golfer

Image
My name is Riley Casey and as you already know I am a student here at The University of Oklahoma. I am now starting my Junior year here and have declared as an economics major due to my interest in the stock market and the many aspects that go along with it. So far my favorite class that i have taken here has been my history class, because I was able to look back and see how the economy has fluctuated over all of the years with technological advances and wars just to name a few factors. I am also a student athlete here and am a member of the Men's golf team on campus and spend the majority of my time focusing on that and looking to better my game so that I can hopefully turn pro after I graduate here in the next two years. My experience of being here at OU was that last November we were invited by President Donald J. Trump to come tour the White House and meet him, due to us winning the Nation Championship my freshman year. Getting to do that was an honor that I will never forget, ...

Storybook Favorites

Image
The first storybook that I really enjoyed was the story about Sita and Rama, and Shakuntala and Dushyanta. This story involves a topic that I understand but have not done much reading about. Sita and Rama both have fallen for each other at first glance, but are too scared to confront one another while on the other hand Shakuntala and Dushyanta were in love, but have fallen out of it and we get to see their thoughts and opinions about young love like what Sita and Rama have. The introduction to this story was very good and was able to give me an idea what the story was about by showing an example of how the story's topic is still true to this day. The design features were good, but I do not know if I would use the same features in my project except for the navigation which was very simple to use which is the most important. Sita and Rama The second story that I found interesting was King Arthur in India, as a little kid I was always fascinated by King Arthur and the Knights of th...

Pebble Beach, My Favorite Place

Image
Out of all the places I have been ver fortunate to go, most of my favorites include golf courses since the reason I get to travel is to play tournaments for the University and on my own during the summer. The  place that stand out above the rest for me is Pebble Beach which is located on the stunning Monterey Peninsula in California. Every year we start our season off at Pebble Beach during the second week of classes and this course is beautiful being nestled along the coast of the Pacific ocean and this tournament symbolizes the beginning of a new year with goals and expectations higher than our previous season. The amount of history has taken place on this course throughout the years is astonishing. Being a course that is in the lineup for US Opens, Champions such as, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite and Tiger Woods have won on this course competing at golf's highest stage. All of this helps make Pebble Beach my favorite place to be and I cherish it every time.   "T...
