Week 14 Reading Notes: Tales of Ancient India B

Picking back up for the second half of this story we are now being introduced to the different gods and are learning more about them. The first one that we are being introduced to is Surya, he was born of Dyaus and Prithwi. Dyaus is the father of heaven, his son Surya grew up very brave and strong compared to all others and was the light of his parent’s life. He rode in a car that was pulled by seven horses whose feet were white as could be. He raced all over his father’s kingdom and had open arms to bless all creatures. Tired of making his journey all alone he decided that it was time for him to go and search for a bride. Sagna the daughter of the architect of the gods was then given to him as a wife. Sagna wished not to be with him so set someone else in her place. It was noticed that now flowers were not in bloom and Surya noticed that he had been deceived. This story is about Krishna and we begin with the introduction with King Mathura and his people. It was a great time for them, every single person was able to enjoy the fruits of their own labor. No discrimination and every single person was treated equally and all given the same opportunity to be successful. No one died a painful death but instead just passed away in their sleep at a ripe old age There was not one single thing wrong with this place. The first time any sorrow was felt was when the King’s son, Kans, was born. Men’s hearts where stricken with fear with all the signs and wonders that appeared with his birth. The earth was shaken and strong towers fell to the ground. Then during the day the sun just disappeared and darkness , then stars fell from the heavens never to be seen by man again. A warning came with the astrologers that Kans would be a mighty ruler but his kingdom would be one of evil. He will rob people of their lands and oppress the go...
