Starting off in reading B we notice as the Pandavas and Queen Kunti reach the palace that Prince Vidura notices that everything is cover in oil and can easily be burned, so fearing that they are going to be burned alive and set a plan to get them out alive by digging a passage to escape from the nearly certain death. Prince Bhima stayed behind so that he could have a chance to exact revenge on the captain who seeked to kill them. Staying behind he waited until the captain and his men entered the house and then set it on fire to kill them like he had planned to do. After escaping out of the passage they proceeded to disappear into the forest which was inhabited by many fearful creatures such as asuras and rakshasas. Starting off the Mahabharta we are introduced to Vyasa who is the author of the entire thing and about how he had declared that there was not one man on earth who was worthy enough to write down this story. Vyasa also arranged the Vedas which is the story about all things that man must know. Because no one was worthy the god Brahma appeared and declared that Ganesha, another god would be his scribe and his pen was not allowed to stop for a single moment. We now are moving into the story. There was one boy who came to live with him and a girl who was left to be raised by the fisherman’s wife who found them. Now moving on to King Shantanu who married a goddess on the condition that he shall never speak harshly to her. To test him she throws their firstborn son into a river killing him and proceeded to do so with the next 6 babies they had and was going to do the same to t...

Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues B

Coming back after the intermission we pick back up in New York City while Nina is there and Dave is still in India. Nina gets an email from Dave about him not wanting her to comeback, he just broke up with her and it is easy to see that she is heartbroken. The visuals make sure of that. It is found out that Sita is pregnant. A laundry man finds out his wife is pregnant and compares her to Sita which leads Rama to banish Sita so that his subjects will respect him instead of questioning his rule. So he sends Lackshama to take Sita into the forest and leave her out into the wilderness alone. I can start to see some of the subtle similarieties that are occurring between Dave and Nina and Rama and Sita, with Dave and Ninas story being shown instead of narrated both Nina and Sita are heartbroken about no longer being with their loved ones. Sita ponders that she must have done something in a past life because she is carrying Rama’s sons while Rama does not believe that and instead thi...
