Week 14 Reading Notes: Tales of Ancient India B
Picking back up for the second half of this story we are now
being introduced to the different gods and are learning more about them. The
first one that we are being introduced to is Surya, he was born of Dyaus and
Prithwi. Dyaus is the father of heaven, his son Surya grew up very brave and
strong compared to all others and was the light of his parent’s life. He rode
in a car that was pulled by seven horses whose feet were white as could be. He
raced all over his father’s kingdom and had open arms to bless all creatures.
Tired of making his journey all alone he decided that it was time for him to go
and search for a bride. Sagna the daughter of the architect of the gods was
then given to him as a wife. Sagna wished not to be with him so set someone
else in her place. It was noticed that now flowers were not in bloom and Surya
noticed that he had been deceived. He threw the woman out f his cart and he
went alone to find his wife. He found his wife and was able to get her to come
back and rule with him.
Moving on we go to Waruna. A rich and powerful king was
unable to have a son. He was given counsel to go pray to Waruna and see if he
would give him a son to his throne. He was granted a son and there was much joy
across the lands for this newborn heir.
