Introduction to a golfer

My name is Riley Casey and as you already know I am a student here at The University of Oklahoma. I am now starting my Junior year here and have declared as an economics major due to my interest in the stock market and the many aspects that go along with it. So far my favorite class that i have taken here has been my history class, because I was able to look back and see how the economy has fluctuated over all of the years with technological advances and wars just to name a few factors. I am also a student athlete here and am a member of the Men's golf team on campus and spend the majority of my time focusing on that and looking to better my game so that I can hopefully turn pro after I graduate here in the next two years. My experience of being here at OU was that last November we were invited by President Donald J. Trump to come tour the White House and meet him, due to us winning the Nation Championship my freshman year. Getting to do that was an honor that I will never forget, getting to meet a sitting president is tremendous no matter what political affiliation you are, or at least that is how I see it. After college I would ideally like to turn pro and pursue my dream of competing at the highest level of golf against the worlds best. I am aware that there is a chance that my dream of doing that may not happen due to unforeseen things that could happen, so my backup plan is to use my economics degree to pursue a career as a financial advisor and see where that leads me. As for that I don't know what else there is to know about me.

  1. Hi Riley,

That is very cool how you are in the Golf team at OU, I bet that keeps you busy along with taking classes at the same time. It is a great thing to have a back up plan in anything, especially for a career that has a chance to effect your life. I hope you get to pursue your dream and play golf professionally as a career and become famous one day.

  2. I hope your team will have a fantastic year ahead, Riley! Grant was a student in this class a couple years ago, and I remember seeing him in a picture at Twitter toting that National Championship trophy back home. That was so cool! He's graduated by now I would guess (?), but maybe Blaine is still in school? He did Rama-golf stories which was really fun; you should ask him about that! And Grant did golf stories too: I remember one about the OU golf course being infested with rakshasas (demon-creatures from the India epic tradition), so you had to be armed and ready to fight off the rakshasas while you were playing the course ha ha. Maybe you will write some golf-inspired stories this semester too! :-)

  3. Hi Riley, that's incredible that you are a Division I Collegiate National Champion! I haven't golfed in a while but I would imagine that you have to play a few hours per day! As per the economics degree, that sounds incredibly enjoyable to study and I'd imagine that you can do a lot with such a great degree! Hope you have a successful golf career and a great year at The University of Oklahoma!

  4. Hi Riley, congratulations on winning the national championship! I hope you get to be a professional golfer one day. It is such a peaceful sport. Economics seems like a very useful degree; so many aspects of our society depend upon a thorough understanding of how money flows in this country. It can be a great force for good! Good luck with everything!

  5. Hi Riley!
I think it's cool that your golf team won the National Championship and got to tour the White House. I bet that was such an awesome experience. Also, I hope you're able to achieve your dreams of playing golf professionally! I say never give up on your dreams, but it's also good to have a backup plan just in case. Good luck on your junior year at OU!

  6. Hi Riley, I have to admit that I was super excited to see another golfer in this class! I was going to play in college myself, but unfortunately I suffered an injury my senior year of high school that really hurt my chances. I guess it was for the best considering I am a pre-med student and I can focus more on my classes... speaking of which I totally commend you on being able to balance life out as a student athlete. Maybe I'll see you someday on the course, and it would be awesome to see your name on a leaderboard one day at a pro tournament on tour, so never give up!

  7. Hi Riley,
Congratulations on that championship! I totally agree- the opportunity to meet any president is a once-in-a-lifetime deal, regardless of political party. It’s so awesome that the athletics teams do so well at this University across the board, and it’s equally awesome that you devote so much time to becoming better at the sport. Best of luck with this class this semester and with your dreams of going pro!

  8. Hey Riley,

I am currently enrolled in an Economics class and you could say it's pretty interesting. Although, I don't think I could go through a whole major of those classes! I am also interested in stocks as well, but it's so complicated. I've always tried getting myself to take some time to study stocks and the details of trading, but I just never found that time. I hope we can make some money in the future via stocks!

  9. Hey Riley! I agree, despite whatever political affiliation you have, getting to meet a US president is definitely really exciting! It’ll definitely be a nice story to tell your grandchildren, lol. I don’t know much about golf or economics, but it’s cool that you enjoy both so much. Good luck on your dream of going pro, and best of luck these next couple years!

  10. Hey Riley! Its awesome you are in the golf team! I used to play golf when I was younger, but I was never really that good at it! Also meeting the president is cool! I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your college career and golf. It would be sweet to become a pro golfer!

  11. Hi Riley!

I am impressed about you being on the golfing team. Congratulations on winning the National Championship. I hope the trend continues for you and your team. Majoring in economics sounds hard, so I wish you the best of luck. I hope you achieve your dream to become a professional golfer.

  12. Hey Riley! I just read your storybook and I love the fact that you get to incorporate your love for golf into this class. I study economics too and I think that it is impossible to understand without studying economic forces impacting and being impacted by major events in history so I love getting to take classes that let me study the economy in hindsight, rather than in theory. I'm not sure if you listen to it, but my favorite podcast, Planet Money, actually did a podcast episode that's related to golf and I wanted to share it with you! https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2018/09/07/645689694/episode-836-the-13th-hole

  13. Hey Riley!
I also think the stock market is interesting! I dabble a little bit with a couple companies using an app called Robinhood. It's free of trading commissions and super easy to use! And they just opened up crypto currency which is awesome! I don't golf much unless its topgolf but even then I have no idea what i'm doing! Good luck with the rest of the semester!

  14. Hi Riley! You're right, meeting the President is pretty cool. I'm from Maryland, so I've seen the White House a lot, but they're very picky about who they actually let inside. I'm sorry to hear about your unforeseen circumstances. It sounds like you REALLY enjoy golf, so I hope everything works out, but it's good that you have a backup plan just in case. Good luck with finals!

  15. Hi Riley! Stock market can be complicated, but I think it’s a good way to understand economy. That sounds like an amazing history class that showed how economy has been like. That’s really cool that you’re a member of golf team. Wow.. that sounds like a really unique and exceptional experience to meet President Trump. It’s nice to meet you Riley!
