Reading Notes, PDE Ramayana C
Starting off with the C reading we find the brothers Sugriva and Vali at odds wit one another because of a misunderstanding that leads to Vali banishing his younger brother until he meets Rama who hears his tale and wants to help get back to the kingdom. Rama persuades Sugriva to challenge his brother Vali to battle with Rama by Sugriva's side. Tara, Vali's chief wife tries to persuade him out of the battle but fails, becasue Vali states that not taking a challenge from an enemy is worth than death itself. As Vali and Sugriva started fighting, Rama went and his with his bow, waiting for the right time to strike. As Sugriva started to weaken, Rama came out and fired his bow at Vali, killing him. With Sugriva now on the throne, he is going to fulfill his promise to help Rama find his beloved Sita. After a stern reminder, Sugriva sends four forces out in all directions with the mission of finding a rescuing Sita. After a month they returned without any progress in finding her, but an elderly vulture had appeared and told them that Sita was taken to Lanka which was across the sea. The vulture who's name is Sampati who had flown to high and spread his wings to protect him. The sun destroyed his wings and sent him tumbling down to earth. Depressed he visited the lord of creatures to ask him to let him die, but is countered and is told he will receive his wings again in time. Hanuman is sent to Lanka to see if Sita is really there and finds her surrounded by she-demons who are fearful to look at. Sita was given a two month term by Ravana to give into him and if not she would be killed. Hanuman left her but was still looking around which led to his capture. In Ravana's court they are debating on giving Sita back to Rama to appease him but in the end decide not to.
