Reading Notes: Ramayana A
Out of all the stories that are part of today’s reading most
of them are accounting for Rama and telling his story of how he was battling to
defeat Ravana since the god Vishnu was unable to in his true form due to Ravana
being invincible to the gods and we are given the detailed travels and battles
that he encountered along his journey. Rama then meets Sita who just so happens
to be that avatar of Lakshima who is Vishnu’s consort because of this Rama and
Sita share a heavenly connection and love for each other. These two fell in
love at first sight with each other. In the next story it is about Shiva’s bow
and whoever can bend the bow will earn Sita for marriage as a prize. Of course
Rama is able to bend the bow and breaks it with his strength which allows him
to win sita’s hand in marriage. He then was handed the bow of Vishnu and it
became ready to shoot clarifying him as a hero. His father Dasharatha decided
that he wished to see Rama become the heir to his throne and his council agreed
with decision since Dasharatha was getting old in age. Along with the people
supporting the decision. Only one person was against this and it was Manthara
who hated Rama ever since they were young. One of Dasharatha’s other wives had
saved his life and was granted two promises, Kaikeyi used this to get her son
announced as king and to also banish Rama for 14 years. Rama will not allow
Sita to come with him so that she will not suffer the same e fate as him
because of his love for her. Out of all these stories the one I like the most is at the
beginning where Dasharatha sacrifices a horse to the gods so that he may have a
heir to his throne.
