Reading Notes, Mahabharata: Karmic Revolution Part B

Picking back up with the topic of Karma that has been going on in the videos. Kunti is introduced and in this she is talking with the powerful sage who everyone in the village is shown to fear. For keeping him company and speaking her mind, she is given a mantra by the sage who tells her that it ca be used to summon a god at any time. Later that day, she speaks the mantra to see if it is true and the sun god shows up in full form. After being embraced by the god and whenever he left, Kunti was left with a child in her arms that had gold earrings and was in full armor. It was easy for her to tell that this child was destined for greatness. Since Kunti was unmarried she could not afford to keep the child to took it to the bank of the river and prayed for the sun god to watch over him and placed her child into a basket. Seems very similar to the story of Moses. Pandu was in the forest hunting one day and shot a hermit while he was in the act of making love, before he died he cursed Pandu saying that when he is making love with a woman he will die. He sent word that he will not be returning to the throne. While I this despair Kunti tells him about the mantra and how she can have the child of any god. Pandu encourages this so that his throne can be taken over, forgetting about his two sons at home. She had 3 more children from the gods and and would allow no more, but gave Pandu’s other wife the ability to have 2 children. In an act of passion Pandu forced himself onto one of his wives and died and that wife jumped into the fire when he was being cremated to be with him.

  1. Hi Riley!

I am in the middle of commenting on the blog stream for extra credit, and your post caught my eye. You did a different reading for week nine than I did. So, I was curious about the Epified videos, and wanted to see what was different. It is interesting how Kunti became pregnant in this version. I read The Kaurava Empire Volumes 1 and 2. They are really good graphic novels, just a little FYI.
