Extra Credit Reading Notes Week 14: Twenty Jakata Tales

Starting off with this reading we begin with the story of the monkey bridge. There was one giant monkey who was the ruler over eighty thousand other normal monkeys. The placed that they lived in the mountains was a complete paradise. There was one tree that bore the most delicious fruit that could be imagined, they would all eat the fruit from the tree and lay underneath the shade that it also produced. The only warning that they had though was not to let any of the fruit float down the river by the tree, for if that happened man would come searching for the fruit and destroy the wonderful society that they had created. One day many years later a ripe fruit was hidden and unseen by the monkeys. It fell and was taken down the river towards the cities of man. The Men found the fruit and all came to the conclusion that the fruit had to have come from the mountains because the air there was so pure. They went searching for the source of the fruit and stumbled onto all of the monkeys. The monkeys were fearful for hearing the men say that they would shoot and kill all of the monkeys. The chief had an idea to save them. He strapped wis foot down with a reed so a bridge could be formed by him so that all of the other monkeys would be able to flee and save their lives. The chief was able to sacrifice his life and save the life of all of his subjects.
